Editorial review

State Secrets & Quirks deals with how the United States of America was formed from wild rough barren territories into fifty organized states. These crosswords take you from the beginnings to the ends of U.S. statehood with a delightful twist. The twist is the secrets and oddities of each state as it was formed and shaped into the present entity. Though the fifty states are a cohesive unit, they are independent within the United States. Each state can make its own laws and sometimes these laws conflict with neighboring state's laws causing situations which must be mediated by the overall law, the Federal government. Sometimes state laws violate individuals constitutional rights which must mediated by the Supreme Court.

These crosswords deal with odd & weird laws, geographical quirks, strange customs and traditions, funny oversights, questionable decisions, famous & weird people, and many other things that are not commonly known about how the states were formed. Some examples are: Chickens can't lay eggs before or lay eggs after a certain time, An entire city was built in a meteor crater, It's a crime to wear a funny moustache to church in one state, A state has laws against cooking cabbage on Sunday, Illegal to carry an ice cream in your pocket, Boys can't throw snowballs but girls can. These are only a few of the odd and wonderful things you will find out about various U.S. states while working these crosswords.
