Why is it Firefox's problem that this website can't keep up with a popular and common browser? To me it sounds like a Conceptis problem.

It's a Firefox problem because the last Firefox update changed a Firefox setting. I personally wouldn't use a web site that changed my browser settings (that's called malware) and that's what Conceptis would have to do to fix it from their side.

I believe you're not clear on the difference between a browser and a website or between malware and freeware. Look these terms up. Do you consider it malware when Internet Explorer issues an update? That would make as much sense as the response you gave. But it's clear that to you Conceptis can do no wrong, so I doubt this post will make any difference to you. It's also clear you've never used Firefox or you'd know what it was. I don't think I'll post on this topic again, it seems pointless. Especially since it is never, ever, Conceptis' error.

I agree with you CharleneTX. Last October Firefox enabled a setting on ver. 49 that created a bug with Flash. Here is Dave's full response:

quote:

dave
Firefox 49.0.2, released on October 20, enables a feature called “Asynchronous drawing” which has a bug. When playing Conceptis online puzzles this bug causes problems such as wrong location of mouse pointer, slow response of mouse movement and more. Here is what you can do:

1) Use a different browser such as Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Safari.

Or

2) Try resizing or refreshing (CTRL-F5) the puzzle window after opening a puzzle.

Or

3) Disable the Firefox feature which causes this problem:
- In Firefox address bar enter:
about:config
- Accept the risk warning
- Search for:
dom.ipc.plugins.asyncdrawing.enabled
- Turn the value of this feature to “false” by double-clicking on it

This is not the first time Firefox have problems with Flash and we expect they will provide an update with a fix. So please check from time to time if a new version has been updated.

Changing the setting in Firefox fixed the problem at the time but Firefox re-enabled the setting with it's update to ver. 55 creating the need to disable it again.

It can be frustrating for some users to have to make this change themselves, but changing a browser setting is not something that Conceptis should attempt to do for us.

Patti

Thank you for posting the solution.
I had not seen this post. It would be nice if all tech info was posted in this thread automatically since that's what this thread is for.
But I still wouldn't call Firefox malware. That's out of line and designed to make people anxious. I know this browser is not popular with Conceptis but it is popular with the general public. No matter how often it's posted here that Firefox is malware, that won't change.

Edit: Now I'm having trouble posting in the forum. This is the first day for this. So sorry for the double post it was unintentional. I would delete it if I could.

You need to work on reading comprehension. I never called Firefox malware.

I would ignore MED401's condescension and general trollishness. Some people just look for fights wherever they can find them.

New Firefox update > new problem.

Puzzles load fine. About one second after first click on the puzzle, the whole window goes blank. The window alternates between solid white and solid green. The control bar for the puzzle is gone within the blankness. The resizing trick works, but only for about 2-3 seconds after the next click on the puzzle.

I checked the shockwave issue and that was not reset. This seems to be a new problem with the new Firefox update. There are at least three notable differences with the new Firefox: the upper bar is now navy blue, the buttons on the upper right that included a download list are gone. There is a new set of buttons with new icons on the top right that seem to have replaced the old buttons.

No puzzle can be worked under this problem.

Best solution is to use a different browser for the meantime.

Thanks, Dave

I'm also having an issue with enjoying ConceptisPuzzles with Firefox on Linux (openSuse Leap 42). I'm running Firefox version 56, and according to Firefox, they no longer allow java applets to run. Same with Chromium (and I believe MS Edge).

I'm guessing that ConceptisPuzzles run on java applets? My flash player is at version 28 (current for Linux).

The main screen shows up with the 3x3 grid of puzzles, but there are no clickable thumbprints (is that the right word?) to launch the actual puzzle in a separate window.

I have to use Firefox (v52) at work to do play them anymore!

EDIT: Just to confirm, this was working with my previous version of Firefox (55?) - it's only in the last month that it's stopped working for me.

Thanks,
Darryl

I would try using a different browser at this time Daryl.

Thanks Dave.

Unfortunately, there are no other browsers for Linux that work (that I know of). There is Konqueror, and the puzzle does load, but only shows in a small window (useless for the bigger puzzles) - and I haven't found a workaround.

I'll keep waiting...

EDIT: Google Chrome (not the open-source Chromium) works like a charm. Downloaded it yesterday, installed it and opened up the ConceptisPuzzles website. The puzzle icons came up, and I had to activate flash and restart browser.

The puzzles are working fine. All good!

Thanks,
Darryl

You'll be waiting a long time.
In case you were wondering I'm the one who's been labeled a horrible troll just for having a previous problem with Dave(he refused to answer a question of mine but just gave me a big runaround. When someone else asked a few months later he answered almost immediately. Probably I'm imagining this right? Us trolls do.) Then I misread a defense of why even though almost every website works with Firefox it's impossible for this one to. Now that I understand the gist of the post, it seems these websites are loading malware onto our browsers to make Firefox work.
Look further up in the thread for the last drama, the other one is too far back to bother with.
Ok, I do believe I won't post here again since I'm so horrible but before I go, here's a sort of solution that barely works for Firefox. Try dragging the edge of the puzzle slightly every time you have a problem(expand of contract, doesn't matter) and sometimes that clears it up for a short while. You will do this multiple times per puzzle but it's all I've got.
I posted this because it didn't seem anyone else was going to point you to this solution explained in more detail slightly further back on the thread(back a page or two?). This is the help thread after all.

I just upgraded my mobile phone, which had several of your apps on it. Can I bring the results I've already achieved over to the new phone as well? I was able to re-download purchased puzzles, but the ones that were completed or in progress have been all reset back to unstarted.

Thanks!

I just wanted to check in to congratulate you on the update to HTML5. Everything is working so much faster and smoother for me. It's truly a joy! (I do wish the sound would default to off, not on, but this minor annoyance isn't ruining my overall joy).
